Fitread help

90 answers, updated 20 October 2026.

Before you start

What does Fitread do?

Fitread reads your CV against one UK job advert and shows how well the two fit, with a match rate worked out by Fitread's own code.

The advert can be a live job in Jobs for you, read from companies' own job pages (contract, temp or permanent, in any kind of work), or one you paste in.

It checks the skills the advert asks for, the job title, the pay as the advert states it, and whether agency software and recruiter searches can read your CV.

It applies only to jobs you pick in Auto apply, and it never promises interviews.

Which files can I upload?

PDF, Word (.docx) and plain text files, up to 5 MB.

You can paste your CV instead, up to 200 KB of text. A pasted advert can be up to 50 KB.

Older Word files (.doc) and scanned images cannot be read. Save your CV as .docx or PDF, or paste the text.

Checks that need the file itself, such as fonts and margins, cannot run on pasted text.

Which adverts can I check my CV against?

Any live job in Jobs for you. Fitread reads those jobs from the job pages UK companies publish themselves, never from job boards. Choose "Read my CV against it" on the job.

Or paste a job link from any site, or the whole advert. Fitread reads a link when the site lets it. Some sites, such as LinkedIn and Indeed, usually don't, so paste the advert from those.

Fitread reads the job title and the type of work from the advert; if the type is wrong, or the advert doesn't say, choose it on the "Read as" chip.

Fitread started with contract roles. It reads temp and permanent adverts too, in any kind of work, and most jobs on companies' own job pages are permanent.

Do I need an account?

For your match score, no. Scan your CV against an advert on the home page and the score is free.

To open the reading, yes. Sign up free from the score and the reading becomes yours.

As a guest, your CV is read in memory and not stored. If you do not sign up, the reading made for your score is deleted within 24 hours.

With a free Fitread account your readings stay until you delete them, and every CV you read with is saved to use again.

Why must the form be sent from the Fitread page?

On screen This form has to be sent from the Fitread page. Reload the page and try again.

Fitread only accepts a reading sent from its own page. Your browser either did not say where the form came from, or said it came from another site.

Reload the Fitread page and send the form again.

If it keeps happening, a privacy extension may be removing that information. Allow it for this site, or try another browser.

Nothing was read or counted.

Why did it say my session has changed?

On screen Your session has changed since the page loaded. Reload the page and try again.

You signed in or out in another tab, or the page was open for a long time, so the form's security check no longer matches your session.

Reload the page and send the form again. Anything you pasted may need pasting again.

Nothing was read or counted.

Why did it say I am signed out?

On screen You are signed out, so nothing was read. Sign in and try again.

You are signed out, so nothing was read. Sign in and try again.

You signed out in another tab, or your sign-in ended, after the page loaded. The reading would not have been saved to your account, so it was not made.

Nothing was read or counted. Copy what you pasted if you need it, then sign in and start the reading again.

Why can I not start another reading right now?

On screen You have started a lot of readings in the last hour. Please wait a while and try again.

Without an account, Fitread limits how many readings can be started in an hour, so the service stays quick for everyone.

On an office or other shared connection the limit can come sooner. A free account has its own limit, which nobody else uses.

Wait a while and try again. Nothing was counted against your free readings.

Why are my readings paused for the hour?

On screen You've reached Fitread's hourly limit for your account. Try again within the hour.

Each account can make up to 30 readings an hour, so the service stays quick for everyone. Only readings Fitread made count, not presses it turned down.

Fitread also pauses after 60 tries in an hour from one account, to stop automated use.

The message says when you can read again. Nothing was counted against your readings.

Why is my CV or advert too large?

On screen That is too large. A CV file can be up to 5 MB, a pasted CV up to 200 KB and a pasted advert up to 50 KB.

A CV file can be up to 5 MB, a pasted CV up to 200 KB of text and a pasted advert up to 50 KB.

Large files are nearly always large because of pictures. Save a copy without photos or graphics, or paste the text instead.

A pasted advert only needs its words. Leave out the rest of the page it came from.

Did this answer it?

Why does Fitread say my file is empty?

On screen That file is empty. Choose your CV file again, or paste the text.

The file you chose has nothing in it. That happens when a copy was not finished, or a cloud folder has not downloaded the file yet.

Open your CV on your own computer, save it again as PDF or Word (.docx), and choose the saved copy.

Or open your CV, copy all of its text and paste it into the CV box.

Did this answer it?

Why could my file not be read?

On screen We couldn't open that file. Save it again as PDF or .docx, or paste the text.

The file may be damaged, protected with a password, or a scanned picture of a CV with no text in it.

Open it on your own computer. If it opens, save a fresh copy as .docx or PDF and try that.

If it is a scan or a photo, paste the text of your CV instead. Agency systems read text, so a text version is worth keeping anyway.

Why was almost no text found in my CV?

On screen We found almost no text in that file. If it's a scan, paste the text instead.

The file opened but held almost no text. That usually means it is a scan or a photo, or the words are inside pictures or text boxes.

Paste the text of your CV instead, or save it again from the program you wrote it in.

A CV whose words are pictures is hard for agency software to read too, so the searchability checks in a reading will help.

Why can this PDF not be read?

On screen That PDF is an image with no text. Save it from Word as PDF, or paste the text.

The PDF has pages but almost no readable text: it may be a scan or a photo. Agency CV databases cannot read an image as CV text either.

In Word, export or save the original document as PDF; in Google Docs, use File, Download, PDF Document. Or paste your CV text instead.

Select and copy a line in the PDF to check whether its words are text.

A failed upload does not use a reading.

Which languages can Fitread read?

On screen We could not recognise enough English text to read this CV reliably. Add an English version or paste its English text. Nothing was read or saved.

We could not recognise enough English text to read this CV reliably. Add an English version or paste its English text. Nothing was read or saved.

The language check uses word patterns, without asking an AI model.

Your CV has not been stored; you can paste an English version into a new reading.

Why should I confirm the English text?

On screen This CV includes text our English checks cannot read reliably. Review the English text and confirm before continuing. No reading has been used.

This CV includes text our English checks cannot read reliably. Review the English text and confirm before continuing. No reading has been used.

Review the retained text and tick the confirmation box before sending it.

The original non-English lines are not used in the reading or translated.

Why does it ask me to paste the advert?

On screen Paste the advert you want to check your CV against (at least a few lines).

The advert box was empty or held only a few words.

Paste the whole advert, including what the job involves and what it asks for. The skills and the title are what the match rate is built from.

For a job in Jobs for you, use "Read my CV against it" on the job instead, and nothing needs pasting.

Why does it say that doesn't look like a job advert?

On screen That doesn't look like a job advert. Paste the advert or a job link.

The box held almost no words to read, such as emoji, symbols, a web page's code or the same few words over and over.

Nothing was read and none of your free readings was used. What you typed is still in the box.

Paste the whole advert, or the link to the job on the company's own page.

Why does Fitread ask me for the job type?

On screen Choose the job type. The advert doesn't say.

The advert doesn't say whether the job is contract, temporary or permanent, and Fitread never guesses. The wrong type would read the pay part wrongly.

Choose Contract, Temporary or Permanent on the "Read as" chip, then press Read my CV again.

Nothing was read and none of your free readings was used.

Why can I no longer read this advert again with corrections?

On screen The reading you were correcting is no longer available, so nothing was read. You can start a new reading below.

The original reading may have expired or been deleted. A reading saved to an account opens only for that account.

Sign in to the account that owns it, or start a new reading with the advert and your CV.

We did not keep a guest CV, so you need to upload or paste it again. A new reading counts towards your reading allowance.

What if something goes wrong on your side?

On screen Something went wrong on our side while reading your CV. Nothing was stored. Please try again.

The reading failed because of a fault at our end, not because of your CV.

Nothing was counted against your free readings.

Please try again in a minute. If it keeps happening, tell us the time it happened and what you were doing.

Reading results

How is the match rate worked out?

Fitread's own code works it out, never AI. It adds up to a hundred points.

70 points for the share of the advert's skills that your CV shows.

15 points for the job title: earned when your CV shows a skill named in the advert's title, or when the first line after your name and contact details names the same role as the title.

15 points for the sector when your CV's own field is the advert's (8 when it is close, none when it differs). A part we cannot read is left out and the rest is scaled to 100.

The reading prints the sum for your CV, so you can check it.

Why is my match rate held lower?

If the advert calls a skill essential and your CV doesn't show it, the rate is held at 49% at most, however many of its other skills your CV shows.

If the advert names fewer than 3 skills Fitread recognises, the rate is held at 49% at most, because there is too little to compare.

If your CV shows fewer than 2 of the advert's skills, the rate is held at 29% at most.

It is held there too when the advert names specific skills (not general ones such as customer service or data entry) and your CV shows too few of them: the one it names, or two when it names more. When the advert names only general skills, your CV needs at least 3 of them.

When a hold applies, the reading's working says so and gives the reason.

Some adverts outside IT name few skills Fitread recognises yet, so a good fit can read low. The reading says so when that happens.

Which fix should I do first?

The reading orders its fixes the same way every time. Fixes come before notes, then the most serious first, then the order of the sections on the page.

On the free plan the first fix in each section is shown in full, up to 5 a reading; the rest are counted. Pro shows every fix.

Add a missing skill or result only if it is true. The reading says so beside every one.

A skill is marked missing, but I have it. Why?

Fitread looks for the advert's skills by their names and the usual short forms of those names.

If your CV says it another way, or only inside a picture, a table or a text box, it may not be found.

Where it is true, use the advert's own wording, and write both the full term and its short form once.

The searchability checks point out pictures, tables and text boxes.

Why does every figure show a number of adverts and a month?

Skill figures come from UK adverts on companies' own job pages, from at least 3 companies, and day rates from live UK contract adverts, so each figure says how many adverts it is based on and which month.

A skill's share of a role's adverts is shown only when at least 20 of that month's adverts for the role name skills and at least 5 name that skill.

A day-rate comparison is shown only when at least 20 adverts for the role give a day rate.

Below those numbers the reading says there are too few adverts, instead of showing a figure. These are advertised figures, not what people are paid.

What is the AI review, and can it change my score?

The AI review is written by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, from your CV and the advert. It is labelled "Written by AI".

It is written around the match rate and cannot change it or any other figure.

Anything it says about you is checked against your CV. A sentence naming a skill, number, date or name that your CV does not contain is removed.

AI reviews are limited each day: 5 for a guest, 10 on the free plan and 60 on Pro. A limit never stops the reading itself.

What do the searchability checks look at?

They check that agency software and recruiter searches can read your CV.

The checks: contact details, location, section headings, profile or summary, education or qualifications, skills, objective, date format, full terms and short forms, text can be read, length, file type and file name.

Length is judged at 350 to 1,300 words and no more than 3 pages.

Each check says what it found and how to fix it. They do not change the match rate.

What are the recruiter checks?

They are advice for the person who reads your CV after the software has.

The checks: measurable results, paragraph length, tone, overused phrases, repeated phrases, line openers, word count, UK conventions, web presence, job level, chronology, references, tense in dated roles, first-person line openings, repeated words, spaces and punctuation and skill names.

For measurable results, the reading looks for at least 3 lines with a number, a percentage or a pound figure.

They do not change the match rate.

Limits and plans

How many free readings do I get?

5 readings every 30 days on the free plan, with no card needed.

They come back 30 days after the day you used the first one, UK time. Your Dashboard and account page show the day. Unused readings do not carry over.

Members are counted by their account, guests by their browser. Each internet connection also has a high limit of its own, kept as a one-way code, never the address itself.

Pro has no count of its own, only a fair-use limit of 300 readings every 30 days.

A reading that fails is never counted, and the Editor never uses a reading.

What does the free plan include?

5 readings every 30 days, each with its AI review, within the daily AI limit.

The first fix in each section of a reading in full, up to 5, with every skill counted; the names of the skills that would raise your match rate most are in Pro.

Interview prep's first question, from a job in your Tracker once you add its interview.

Job Match with a shorter list; Pro shows every job that fits.

The Tracker, the CV manager, applying on a job's own page and job alerts, which are never part of a paid plan.

What does Pro add, and what does it cost?

Pro monthly costs £34.99 a month. Pro quarterly costs £69.99 every three months, which works out at £23.33 a month. Fitread Ltd is not VAT-registered, so no VAT is added.

Pro adds unlimited readings (fair use 300 every 30 days) and every fix in every reading.

It adds the Editor's AI suggestions and Word export, application messages and cover notes in Letters, thank-you notes, LinkedIn drafts, interview prep, and every live job that fits in Job Match, contract, temp or permanent.

Applying on a job's own page, job alerts, the Tracker and the CV manager are never part of a paid plan. Job Match is free with a shorter list.

How do I cancel Pro?

Cancel from your plan page, which opens Stripe's billing page. Fitread Ltd never sees your card details.

During a trial, Pro stays on until the trial ends and you pay nothing.

Within 14 days of your first payment, cancelling refunds that payment in full and Pro ends at once.

After that, Pro stays on until the end of the period you have paid for. Then your account moves to the free plan and your readings stay, showing what the free plan shows.

Take Pro again and a reading comes back in full if you saved its CV and its advert has not changed.

If a payment fails, Pro stays on for 7 days while you update your card.

Deleting all your Fitread data does not cancel Pro, so cancel here if you want to stop paying. Closing your account cancels it first.

Is anything about finding work paid?

Auto apply uses credits. Jobs, job pages, applying on a job's own page, job alerts, the Tracker and the CV manager are free on every plan and are never part of Pro. Job Match is free too, with a shorter list; the full list needs Pro.

Pro pays for tools that work on your CV and lowers the price of Auto apply credits. It never buys access to jobs.

Outside Auto apply, applying is always your own click on the company's job page. Fitread never applies through a job board for you.

How does Auto apply send an application?

Fill in Preferences once. Then press Apply on a job on the Auto apply page or in Quick review. You get a few seconds to undo, then it goes. Each application uses 1 credit.

Fitread fills in the employer's own form on their recruiting system with your CV and answers. For some systems a browser that Firecrawl runs for Fitread does this, with the same answers and rules. It says Sent only when their page confirms it, and each application shows What was sent.

Auto apply only lists jobs whose form Fitread has already read and found clear of a check for people, a sign-in, or a line asking for no AI tools. If one shows up while sending, nothing is sent and your credit comes back. Fitread never does a check for you.

A question your answers don't cover is answered from your CV and profile, and labelled. Anything else waits on Needs you. One answer covers every job that asks it.

Choose "Finish on their page" and their page opens with your answers ready to copy. If you choose it, or Fitread was sending it and stopped, before Fitread pressed their Submit, your credit comes back once. "Try again" uses a credit. A sent application is never refunded.

Your match score is never sent. Fitread never applies through a job board.

What are the four ways Fitread can send applications?

Choose one in Quick settings: open Preferences, then More settings.

"Check first" gets each application ready when you press Apply, then you check it and press Send. "Only when I press Apply" sends each one when you press Apply.

"Every day, best matches only" sends matches at or above the score you set, without asking each time, and keeps the rest for you to review. "Every day for me" sends every match that fits your roles and match level in Job preferences.

The two "Every day" ways need your tick, and Fitread keeps a record of what you agreed to and when. They send as many as your credits cover. Pause stops them at once. With no credits left they pause and say so.

Each application uses a credit. When you press Apply for a third job at one company within 30 days, Fitread tells you before it sends.

Questions you haven't answered are filled from your CV and profile, and long answers can be written by AI from your CV only. Each one is labelled in What was sent.

Right to work, sponsorship, criminal records, health, equality questions, security clearance, qualifications your CV doesn't show, pay you haven't saved, consents and declarations always wait for you.

What are the Auto apply page, Quick review and Needs you?

The Auto apply page lists the jobs that fit your roles and match level, and every application, under To review, In progress, Applied and Declined. A job posted more than once is listed once.

Quick review shows the same jobs one at a time. Decline it, Skip it for now, or Apply.

Needs you lists applications waiting for an answer only you can give. Answer them and press Save and send. "Leave out of this send" keeps one waiting there. "Don't send" sends nothing and gives its credit back.

An application waiting on their own page says "Check their page". It has "Don't send" too, but its credit stays used because their page was opened, unless the advert has closed. Then press "The job has closed" and the credit comes back.

Which Fitread services are free, and which are paid?

Fitread's notice says which services are free on every plan, what each paid service costs (Pro, Auto apply credits, the Interview Practice add-on) and who is paid.

It is written from the same settings the plan page uses, so it changes when a price or a rule changes.

When it changes, it shows again once on your Dashboard.

I have used my free readings. What now?

On screen You have used your free readings. They come back 30 days after the day you used the first one.

The free plan includes 5 readings every 30 days. The message shows the day they come back, 30 days after the day you used the first one, UK time.

As a guest, readings are counted on your browser. A free account keeps your readings in one place and can start a Pro trial.

Pro has unlimited readings within fair use.

What you typed stays on the page, so nothing is lost when you come back.

Your data

Does Fitread show my CV to recruiters or employers?

Fitread never shows your CV to a recruiter, agency or employer unless you send it to a specific advert or share it with someone you choose.

Fitread is its own site with its own database, and no other site reads your Fitread CVs.

You can delete any saved CV, or all your Fitread data, at any time from your account.

What happens to my CV if I am not signed in?

Your CV file and its text are read in memory and not stored.

You see your match score on the browser you used, for 30 minutes. The reading behind it is held only so that a sign-up from the score in that time can keep it. Nobody can open it before then, and it is deleted within 24 hours if you do not sign up.

It holds the skills found, the figures and advice, the AI review and opener, and up to three short lines of your CV behind the opener.

When is my CV stored?

Signed in, every reading saves the CV it was made from in your CV manager, once however many readings use it. A CV you add in the CV manager, or with Add a CV when you set up a live interview, is saved too.

It is kept as a private file for your account, not in the database.

Your readings and saved CVs stay until you delete them, or until your account has not been used for 5 years.

Delete a CV in the CV manager, or everything from your account page.

How do I delete a reading, or everything?

"Delete this reading now" on any reading deletes it at once.

"Delete all my Fitread data" on your account page removes, at once and for good, every reading, every stored CV file and its text, your tracker cards and notes, drafts written for you and your usage counts.

Your Fitread account itself stays, so you can still sign in.

Pro and Interview Practice keep running: deleting your data cancels and charges nothing. To stop paying, cancel in Manage billing on your plan page, or close your account.

A record of which trial emails we sent and when (never their text or your address) stays for 540 days, in case a payment is disputed.

Is my CV sent to an AI company?

To write the AI review, openers and suggestions, the text of your CV and the advert is sent to Anthropic, which runs the Claude AI model for Fitread Ltd.

To show what agency systems read (the ATS view), the text of your CV is also read by Textkernel's CV parser, in the EU. Textkernel keeps nothing after the reading and never uses CVs to train AI.

Nothing from your account, such as your name or email address, is added.

The match rate and every figure are worked out by Fitread's own code, not by AI.

For LinkedIn headline and About drafts, your saved CV is sent, never the LinkedIn profile you paste. The LinkedIn checks use no AI.

The full notice is the privacy notice linked at the foot of every page.

What does Fitread count about me?

Your free allowance is counted against your account or, for a guest, against a one-way code made from a random id in a cookie on the browser, and from the connection, never the address itself. These counts are deleted after 13 months.

Fitread's own statistics are counts only, such as how many readings were made in a day, with nothing that identifies you.

"Did this answer it?" on this page is counted the same way: a yes or a no for that answer, and nothing else.

Account and sign-in

I paid for Pro, but my plan says Free. What now?

Pro belongs to the Fitread account that was signed in when you paid.

Check which account you are signed in with. Your plan page shows the plan on that account.

If you have more than one account, for example one made with a different email address, sign out and sign in with the other.

If Pro is still missing, tell us, with the email address on your payment receipt.

Did this answer it?

How do I close my account?

On your account page, open "Close my Fitread account", type DELETE and choose "Close my account".

Pro and Interview Practice are cancelled first. Within 14 days of your first payment, that payment is refunded in full; after that, the rest of the period is not refunded.

Then your account, readings, CVs and sign-in are deleted at once, and WorkOS deletes its record of you too.

A record of which trial emails we sent and when stays for 540 days, in case a payment is disputed.

Contract, temp and permanent terms

Does Fitread read temp and permanent jobs as well as contracts?

Yes. Fitread reads contract, temp and permanent adverts, in any kind of work.

Fitread started with contracts. Most jobs on companies' own job pages are permanent, and a job's type is shown only when the advert or its title states it.

The match rate works the same way for all three. What changes is the pay part of the reading.

A contract shows its day rate and its IR35 status as the advert states them. A temp job shows its pay as stated, and a permanent job its salary as stated.

How does Fitread handle IR35?

On a contract reading, the IR35 status is the one the advert states (inside or outside IR35), or "not stated".

Fitread never guesses a status from the rate, the sector or the wording.

For a pasted advert, only the words "inside IR35" or "outside IR35" count as stated.

IR35 appears on contract readings only. Nothing in Fitread is tax or legal advice.

My work is not in IT. Will Fitread work for me?

Yes. Fitread reads adverts in teaching, health and social care, construction and trades, logistics and driving, finance, legal, HR, admin, sales, hospitality, the public sector and energy, as well as IT.

Some adverts outside IT name fewer skills that Fitread recognises yet, so a good fit can read lower than it should. The reading says so when that happens.

The searchability and recruiter checks work the same way for every kind of work.

Tools

What is Job Match?

Job Match lists live UK jobs from companies' own job pages that fit your saved CV, scored the same way as a reading. Contract, temp and permanent jobs are all listed, each with its type only when the advert or its title states it.

Job Match is free with a shorter list; Pro shows every job that fits.

Matches need a CV in your CV manager. Every reading saves its CV there, or you can add one there. Without one you can still search live jobs by keyword; they show no match rate.

Outside Auto apply, applying is always your own click on the company's job page. Fitread never applies through a job board for you.

What is the Tracker?

A board for the jobs you are going for, free on every plan.

Its stages: Saved, Applied, Interviewing, Offered, Started and Closed.

Add a job from a reading or by hand, and move it along as things change. Save it from its reading and the match rate comes with it.

Fourteen days after you apply, the board asks whether you got an interview.

Each card's Interviews tab shows the day to follow up, counted in working days (Monday to Friday; bank holidays are not skipped). Change the delay on the card, or set it to 0 to turn it off. It shows on the card and the board and is never emailed.

Did this answer it?

How does the Inbox work?

Forward job emails to your private Fitread address and they show in your Inbox, labelled and linked to the application they are about. Your applications keep your own email.

Set up a Gmail filter or an Outlook rule once, so only recruiting systems' emails come here. Gmail's code shows on the set-up page.

Labels come from known phrases first, then Fitread AI (it uses Claude, Anthropic's AI) when unsure. Change any label yourself.

An interview invite, an offer or a "not this time" moves the job forward on your Tracker. Undo puts it back.

AI reply, part of Pro, drafts an answer from the email, your CV and your saved answers only. You send it from your own email; Fitread never sends it.

Emails are kept 180 days, then deleted, and go with your data. Images are never loaded and attachments are never kept.

Can I speak instead of typing?

Yes. Press the microphone button under a text box and speak; your words appear where the cursor is. Press it again to stop. It is there on your answers in Needs you, a cover letter you edit, Letter check, Tailor my CV and the CV builder.

Undo puts the box back as it was before you spoke, in one step. Nothing is saved until you save what you are writing.

When you are signed in, ElevenLabs, our speech supplier, writes out what you say, with punctuation. Otherwise, or after the day's limit, your browser's own speech recognition does it, and depending on your browser its maker's speech service hears the audio (Google's in Chrome, Microsoft's in Edge, Apple's in Safari).

Fitread never keeps your voice. Dictation is free for members, within a daily limit. If your browser can't do either, the button isn't shown; typing always works.

How does Interview Practice work?

Interview Practice is a monthly add-on, on any plan. It is a live interview with Fitread's AI interviewer, a spoken conversation of 10, 15 or 20 minutes. Pick a general interview, a job title, or an advert or saved job, and Fitread AI (it uses Claude, Anthropic's AI) writes the main questions from it and your CV.

Pick one of your saved CVs, or use Add a CV in the set-up to add a file (PDF, Word or text) or paste its text. It is saved to your CV manager, like a CV you add there, and you can delete it there.

The interviewer asks follow-up questions about what you said, repeats a question when you ask, and keeps to time. How the call works is in the next answer.

After the call, feedback on each answer comes from Fitread AI, from your words only. Pace, filler words, power words, pauses and negative phrases are counted by Fitread's own code from the words of the call and when they reached the page.

The stronger answer uses only what you said and your CV, and says "add your result" where a fact only you know is missing.

Your practices stay until you delete them, and practices you answered one question at a time before the live interview stay there to review. Cancel the add-on any time in Manage billing on the Interview Practice page.

Without the add-on you can have one free 5-minute interview with a free account, one per person. Its report shows your overall score, the words of the call and your recording; the rest of the report is kept and opens in full once you have the add-on. Free interviews have a daily limit across Fitread; when it is reached, try again the next day.

How does the live interview work?

Your browser asks for your microphone first, and for your camera only if you want eye-contact coaching (it is optional). During the call your voice goes to ElevenLabs, our speech supplier, which turns it into words and gives the interviewer its voice; the interviewer's words come from Claude, Anthropic's AI. Fitread never gets your voice, and Fitread keeps no recording of the call.

Ask the interviewer to repeat a question, or for a moment to think, whenever you like. The interviewer's words sit at the top of the screen, just under where most cameras are, so reading them keeps your eyes near the camera. The screen also shows the time left, the question you are on, Mute, captions, your devices and End interview.

When the call ends, Fitread keeps its words, has ElevenLabs delete the conversation, and writes your feedback, a stronger answer and the measures.

An interview counts towards the month's fair use once its call connects, and so do the minutes of your calls. Setting one up doesn't count. A call that never connects uses nothing, and you can start it again from the same interview. If your microphone is blocked, allow it in your browser and press Try again; if the live interviewer can't be reached, try again in a few minutes.

How does eye-contact coaching work?

It is optional. If you allow your camera before a live interview, your browser reads it on your own device a few times a second to work out whether you are looking at the screen while you answer. The picture never leaves your device, and Fitread never receives it, a photo of you or the points it finds on your face.

Only numbers reach Fitread, at the end of the call - the share of your answering time spent looking at the screen, your reading moments (looking down or to one side for two seconds or more while speaking; a quick glance never counts), your longest look-away, the seconds measured and how often your head turned away, and each answer's own share.

It also notes when you smile (only whether you are smiling, never your feelings) and how well your face is lit, and your report says where you smiled and what to fix in the light. Smiles and light are never part of your score.

It never identifies you and never works out your feelings or emotions. It is coaching for your own practice, not a check on you. A quick check before the call helps you sit in frame and in strong, even light, and sets what looking at the screen means for you.

Camera or not, where your browser allows it, it also measures how loud your answers are against the room's own sound, on your device, so your report can say if you were quiet, loud, in a noisy room or trailing off. Only those numbers reach Fitread.

With the camera on, your browser also records the call so you can watch it back on your report while that page is open. The recording stays in your browser and is never sent to Fitread; Save video downloads it to your device, and the page asks before you leave without saving.

Without the camera everything else works, and your report says eye contact was not measured.

How is my interview score worked out?

Your report scores five areas from 1 to 5 and gives their weighted mean out of 5 - structure 20, relevance to the job 25, specifics and results 25, clarity 15, delivery 15.

Fitread AI (it uses Claude, Anthropic's AI) marks each answer as shown, partly or not shown in each of the first four areas, against the rubric on the report, quoting your own words from that answer. Fitread's code turns the marks into points over every question asked, so a question you didn't answer counts as not shown, and so do planned questions not reached when a call ends more than two minutes early.

Some rules are fixed - an answer under 12 words counts as not shown, one under 25 words is partly at most for structure and specifics, and an answer that misses the question is partly at most in the other areas.

Fewer than three answers of a few sentences, or under 150 words in all, gets no score.

Delivery is the share of what Fitread's code measured that was on track - pace, filler words and long pauses, and with the camera on, eye contact and reading moments - once you have answered for a minute across three answers. It lifts the overall by half a point at most. If answers couldn't be timed, the report says delivery wasn't measured.

The score is a guide for your practice, not a prediction of any employer's decision. Download report opens a page to print or save as a PDF on your device, and Read it back shows the whole conversation with its times.

What are the LinkedIn and interview tools?

The LinkedIn check reads your profile against the role you want. The checks are free with an account; headline and About drafts from your CV are in Pro.

Interview prep lists likely questions for the advert and the parts of your CV that answer them. It is part of Pro. Interview Practice, the live spoken interview, is a separate add-on.

Anything written by AI is labelled as written by AI and uses only what your CV says.

How does Fitread write a letter?

Every sentence is written from your CV (for a thank-you note, also the notes you type), and shows the CV line behind it.

A line that would add a skill, employer, date or figure your CV does not show is taken out, and the draft says how many.

What Fitread cannot know stays a marker, like [YOUR NAME]. Copy and Download stay off until you accept the draft and fill every marker.

Contract letters state IR35 only as the advert does. Temp and permanent letters never mention IR35 or a day rate.

Letters are kept in your account until you delete them. Fitread never sends one; you copy it, download it or open it in your own email app.

Which letter format should I pick?

"Pick it from the advert" reads the advert and picks the usual UK format for it, shown as Suggested. You can change it.

An agency message is a short note to a recruiter with your CV, for the apply box or an email. It is the usual choice for contract and temp work through an agency.

A cover note is about 250 to 350 words, for an employer hiring directly. A formal letter is a full UK business letter, only when the advert asks for one.

A supporting statement sets out your evidence against each behaviour or criterion, when the advert asks for it.

With a reader's name the letter opens "Dear Ms Carter," and closes "Yours sincerely,". Without one, it opens "Dear Sir or Madam," and closes "Yours faithfully,".

Did this answer it?

What does the letter check look at?

Plain rules on your letter and the advert, with no score and no AI. Your paste is checked in memory and Fitread keeps no copy.

Missing advert words are not a checklist to stuff into a letter. Use a term only when you can support it.

A text check cannot establish whether a claim is true, or whether a recruiter will choose you.

Fill [COMPANY LINE], [URL] and similar markers yourself. The check leaves them unchanged.

What do the LinkedIn checks look at?

Plain rules on your headline, About, Experience roles, Skills and location, free with an account. Your profile score is the share of the checks made that your profile passes, every check counting the same. No AI reads your profile, and the result is not a prediction of what a recruiter will do.

Experience titles matter most. LinkedIn's recruiter search filters on the job titles in your Experience section, so your current roles are checked against the role you want, and one with the title is enough (with none current, the one that ended last). The title counts however it is spelt (Front-End or Frontend Developer). A nearby job does not count as it, so Project Coordinator is not Project Manager.

If you work through your own limited company, a current role of "Director" or "Owner" at your Ltd hides your work from those searches. Add each client engagement as its own role, titled with the work you did.

The skills check looks for skills your saved CV shows that your Skills list leaves out. When there are enough live adverts for the role, only the skills those adverts name count.

The visibility line counts the role's live UK adverts on companies' own job pages that use its title, with the number of adverts and the month. It shows only when there are enough adverts, from at least 3 companies. The phone line shows roughly where a phone cuts your headline in search results; the real cut depends on the device.

Step 1: paste your LinkedIn profile URL (on LinkedIn: Me, View profile, then copy the address from your browser's address bar) and tick that it is your own profile.

Step 2: the role you want, from your job preferences or your CV to start with, or a job advert: paste it, or a link to the job on the company's own site, and the checks use its title and type of work. Links to LinkedIn, Indeed, CV-Library and other job boards are not opened; paste the advert instead.

Fitread never logs in to LinkedIn or fetches anything from it. Your public profile is read for you by Mindcase, a profile data service, and only for your own profile; what it reads is used for that check only, then discarded. Nothing of your profile is stored. A one-way code of the link is kept for 24 hours, only to count how many different profiles an account reads.

How do the LinkedIn headline and About drafts work?

Headline and About drafts are part of Pro, and included in the free trial.

They are written from your saved CV only. The profile you paste is never sent to the AI; Fitread's own code uses it only to see which of your CV's skills it already shows.

To write them, your CV is sent to Anthropic, which runs the Claude AI model for Fitread Ltd. The drafts are not stored, so copy what you want before you leave the page.

Every line is checked against your CV in code. A line that adds years, a title, a figure, a clearance, availability or a skill your CV does not show is taken out, and the draft says how many.

Drafts count towards a daily limit, and the page says when you reach it. Read each draft before you use it.

How does Tailor my CV work?

Choose a saved CV, or upload one and save it, and paste the advert. Fitread reads your CV against it like any other reading (it counts as one), then opens the Editor on its Tailor tab.

With Pro, your profile and bullet lines go a few at a time to Claude (an AI model by Anthropic), which suggests a rewording where the advert's words fit what a line already says. Fitread checks each one and shows the words of your CV it came from.

Each rewording keeps every name and number in its line and never adds a skill. Lines about pay, dates, a clearance, licence or card, notice, shifts, availability, or a client or agency are left as you wrote them.

Accept, edit or reject each change, and answer the question about a missing skill only if you have used it. Nothing is saved until you save a new version.

Without Pro, the tab shows what the pass would read. Editing, the live match rate and saving versions stay free.

How does starting the CV builder from my CV or LinkedIn work?

Upload your CV, choose one you saved, or upload the PDF LinkedIn makes of your profile. It is read in memory, the file is not kept, and nothing is sent to an AI.

You then see what we read (each role with its dates and length, your skills and qualifications) and correct anything in the wrong place. Nothing is added or reworded.

Lines with no place in the builder are listed for you to copy, and anything a UK CV leaves out is listed with its reason.

From LinkedIn come your name, headline and location, your About text, each role with its dates, education, top skills and certifications. We then ask once for what LinkedIn does not hold, such as your right to work, when you can start, a clearance, a driving licence, or a CSCS card or DBS check.

To get the PDF, open your LinkedIn profile on a computer, choose More (or Resources) under your name, then Save to PDF.

It opens in the builder as a draft only you can see. As a guest, nothing is stored.

What does the template extraction check prove?

The gallery creates a sample Word document and reads its words back out to check that they survive in order.

Its proof describes that sample document. It cannot guarantee how every agency system will read every CV you create.

Choose a template, keep your own facts accurate and check the document before sending it.
